Welcome to
SKINKS Tattoos with Nadine Bryant (owner & tattooist),
Marty & E1. SKINKS is located on Heaphy Terrace in
Hamilton and the shop's been open ten years in January
2007. Nadine is originally from Sussex, England and has
been in New Zealand just over eleven years. She was
taught the art of tattooing by David Howe in England
back in '89. Nadine's into bikes and art and even
brought out her '85 Sporty to New Zealand. She got her
first tattoo when she was in the UK at 18 years old.
Nadine's
won many Tattoo awards for many categories in the world
of Skin Art, both in New
Zealand & Australia.
SKINKS has
a large clientele with both Nadine & E1 (Ewen) with
Marty taking care of the day to day running of the
office and appointments. E1's originally from Mangaweka
and makes a joke about being the World Champion gumboot
thrower haha... He learnt the art of tattooing while in
Australia and spent three years with 'Herman' of
Adelaide, (AUS). Prior to working at SKINKS, E1 worked
at 801 Tattoo Studio in Hamilton.
The first photo
shoot at SKINKS was a typically busy day and Brigit was able to
photograph three clients being inked. The first client's
from Morrinsville (Don) who's getting his first tattoo and
very beautiful art piece and back job. The design looks very similar to Boris
artwork with a winged tiger and woman. After Don,
Nadine's finishing Floyd's tattoo "Pink Floyd The
Wall". E1's client Andy is from Hamilton
and he recalls the days the shop first opened because he lived up the
road.
"I'd walk by
and be too scared to go into the shop and get a tattoo
because hiding it from your parents was something else in
those days...", said Andy. Today he's happy to be sitting in
E1's chair at SKINKS and adding to his ink collection of
personal designs.
I captured
some very nice close up shots of both Nadine and E1 with the
tools of the trade in motion to share with the viewers and
there's no doubt I'd like to make another music clip of
these photos in the near future.
Nadine is one
awesome artist, tattooist and Lady. I hope you all enjoy the
photos and Inside SKINKS with Nadine, Marty & E1.
Congratulations to
Nadine, Ewen and Team for the sixteen awards won in the
Australasian Tweed Heads Tattoo Convention held in May 2007.
Respect to Nadine & the Team @
