Historical Cemetery & Event

For over fifty years this motorcycle racing event has been taking place around the Heads Road Cemetery in Wanganui, New Zealand. It's this historical cemetery that gives this circuit it's unique name and in the early records this cemetery was known as 'Sandhills Cemetery', one of New Zealand's oldest European cemeteries dating back to November 1843. As a street race circuit, and being on it for the first time, I could definitely see why it's appropriately called the Cemetery Circuit.

Cemetery Crowds for Robert Holden Memorial Race

19 action packed races 19 consecutive years of racing with Race 16 now in Honour of Robert Holden's memory with two races and the fastest 30 Riders competing in a final feature race of 15 laps. Robert Holden tragically died in an early morning practise crash at the Isle of Man on 31st May 1996. He's considered the most successful rider in the history of the circuit with winning eight of the ten races (1995) and finishing second in the other two races.  This was his favourite circuit and and part of the circuit is now known as the Robert Holden corner.

Race Sponsors - Wanganui Motorcycle Club Inc.

This annual event could not survive or exist without the many race sponsors, their assistance and co-operation which makes this one of the best street circuit motorcycle racing events for over fifty years. Congratulations to Ssangyong and Pirelli for sponsoring this year's Cemetery Circuit which features the Robert Holden Memorial Cup and the Trans-Tasman Super Motard Challenge.
